I found learning the basics of DaVinci Resolve – a video editing app – quite a fun experience. The Beginner’s Guide had be produce a trailer for a short documentary, Living in the Age of Airplanes; after that, I also progressed through part of a follow-up, The Colorist Guide. I studied with the free version, which is good enough to get any job done.
Since then, I’ve used it to make a short, funny video slide presentation of the dishes one of my cooking-loving friends sends me, as well as color grade some deep fakes I made (putting my face in some movies and music videos to learn the tech). While there are more appropriate tools for still images, I’ve also used it to color grade photos (for example, one of the background images currently on my website is grayscale except for the red farm equipment).
Given its flexibility, I highly recommend putting in the time to learn it if you have any type of project which could benefit.
